Poshan Pakhwara
As part of celebrations of the first anniversary of POSHAN Abhiyaan (Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India), on 8th March, 2019, Poshan Pakhwada was organized across the Country. To mark this occasion, the Department of Food and Nutrition, Institute of Home Economics (University of Delhi), carried out some health and nutrition related community based activities and organised a conference too. A brief write up of these activities is presented below.
1. Workshop and counselling session (in Hindi) was conducted on "Imparting Nutrition and Mental Health Education" to the young adolescent girls at the Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Saket, New Delhi.
2. A Street play (in Hindi) was performed for general public on 'Safe and Healthy Diets' outside Metro Station, Hauz Khas, New Delhi.
4. Nutrition and Health Education sessions were conducted in an aanganwadi for the beneficiaries (pregnant and lactating women and adolescent girls) on importance of hygiene and sanitation, healthy diet, importance of ante-natal checkup during pregnancy, nutritional deficiencies among women, importance of exclusive breastfeeding and complementary foods. A few low cost iron rich recipes, made from local and seasonal ingredients, were also shared with them.
5. Nutrition Education programme was carried out for school going children at a Resident Welfare Association on the importance of having breakfast. This message was conveyed to them through various audio-visual aids.
