Department of Fabric and Apparel Science organised Fab Fest ’19 on 15th and 18th Feb’19. A two day workshop was conducted on both the days as part of the annual academic fest of Department of Fabric & Apparel Science. Workshop was conducted on Sustainable Design for Fashion for B.Sc. and M.Sc. Home Science students. Ms. Shalini Bansal (Design Consultant & Educator) was the resource person for the workshop. Ms. Shalini is the alumna of Institute of Home Economics. She is 1997 batch pass out of B.Sc. Home Science. Further, She enrolled in Advance Entry Programme in Textile Design at National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. With over 18 years of industry and education experience in Design. She has worked in the domains of Branding and brand building, textiles, fashion, exhibition, graphics, events and education.

During workshop, students were introduced to the concept of sustainability, zero waste designs, reduced processes, reversible clothing and were made to understand the importance of design through sustainability. Activity was given to students in a group of four to design atleast one garment with reduced processes and multiple usage. Students got the layout of their designs product finalised by the workshop expert. The approved layout was made into pattern and fabric was cut and sewn to make the garment. Students successfully completed the task of making a prototype of multifunctional sustainably design.

The talk made an understanding about the role of women in the current political scenario of India. She also made the students realise the importance of content and how it is the soul of the work.

Students of (Pass) Home Science and Post-Graduation participated in fashion show – Periodic glimpse of movies. They had showcased on various themes like Mohenojo Daro, Mughal-E-Azam, Heer Ranjha, Ashoka, Ramleela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmavat. First prize won by Bajirao Mastani, students designed their costumes and performed their show with enthusiasm. During the fest, students have participated in fun activities and draping competition. Further, students and faculty members enjoyed the shopping as various crafts men’s were invited across India to display their products for sales.
