We, at the Institute of Home Economics believe that journalists are the torch bearers of any society, helping to sustain its vibrant democracy. In the year 2017, the Department of Development Communication and Extension started B.A (Hons) program in Journalism which offers theoretical and practical skills on the various facets of journalism.

During the three years program, the students are taught an array of subjects ranging from Introduction to Journalism, Media and Communication, Reporting and Editing for Print, Media and Cultural Studies, Broadcast Media, Advertising and Public Relations, New Media, Development Communication, Media Ethics and Law and Global Media and Politics. All the subjects are taught by experienced faculty members specialising in different fields of Journalism.

The course exposes the students to several events throughout the year that provide them an opportunity to interact with stalwarts in the media industry, attend workshops and seminars on contemporary issues. The Department also conducts various short-term courses to provide technical skills to our students. Recently, courses on Radio Jockeying, Anchoring and Production and Campus to Corporate were organised by the Department.

After the course, students can pursue careers in various fields such as Print and Electronic Journalism, Freelance Journalism, Photojournalism, Advertising and Public Relations, Media Planning and Implementation. They can also opt for various fields in Research and Development such as Project Managers, Policy Planners and Development Communication Officers. There is a constant rise in demand for trained professionals to work as Corporate Communicators, Copywriters, Editors, Correspondents, News Analysts, Social media Specialists, Social Advocacy Organisers, Policy Planners etc.
